  E-mail: humc_pastorvm@sbcglobal.net
Because we feel congregational visitation is a very important and personal ministry that needs and requires pastoral support and leadership, Rev. Ruwal Freese (pronounced rule freeze) has been hired as Director of Visitation Ministries and Pastoral Assistant.  Rev. Freese was installed on November 9th, 2008.
His two main areas of responsibility include:
  • Providing pastoral services to the congregation and community when pastor Bruce is not in Hudson and when non-members request weddings and funerals. His goal -- to free Pastor Bruce for the important task of congregational leadership.
  • Working with congregational ministers (members) in the area of visitation and member support. His goal -- to provide pastoral care and to encourage excellent congregational care of homebound persons and others in special need situations, and to involve the home-bound ministry to others.
His background includes:
  • Married to wife, Mary, with three children ... one child in Minneapolis, and two children and six grandchildren living in Houston, Texas and Palo Alto, California.
  • Served 35 years in United Methodist churches in Wisconsin. Has been retired for 10 years, living the simple life, selling or giving away their belongings and traveling the country in their travel trailer. This included hiking and volunteering in state and national park areas.
  • Ministry with the homebound elderly was a special interest and the subject of his Doctor of Ministry study at Garrett-Evangelical Seminary.

Administrative Assistant, Kathy O'Brien Schroeder

With over ten years of experience of working in a church office setting, Kathy has a wealth of experience. Her most recent job has been providing administrative support at Hastings United Methodist Church. Her support included daily church office tasks and support, fundraising, adult ministries, missions, youth and children programs, inserts, newsletters, program registration, seminars, and special events. You name it and she has worked on it. Her passion is to lift up and support the body of Christ. Kathy has seen God bring about the right person for every task, which has led to a deepening of her faith. Her volunteer activities include behind the scene clerical support for European and Asian missions. She enjoys singing in the church choir, although Kathy doesn’t call it singing. It’s more like following along.

Words to describe Kathy are: friendly, honest, dependable, confidential, and intelligent. She is a hard worker with a strong Christian character. She has an Irish sense of humor, so be prepared to laugh or smile. In Kathy’s spare time she enjoys being with her family and household pets, reading, watching movies with her family, cooking, fishing, prayer, and helping her mother, who last year had a stroke.

Kathy has been happily married to her husband, Dave for 28 years. They met while having a snowball fight at the University of Minnesota. It was love from the first pitch. Originally from St. Paul, they moved to Hudson 16 years ago. Dave owns an Apple Computer store, Team Technology, in Woodbury, MN. They have one son named John O’Brien Schroeder. John recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a double major in Physics and Computer Science, with a Math minor.
